As someone who left a rather large salaried job in the private sector to
work in education, I must say that there are other values that some
colleagues have that make them wish to join/stay in the education
sector.
Hat said, and not wishing to be a stick-in-the-mud, I would appreciate
it if could we get back on track to the main focus of this forum.

this was the case about a year ago, though in the south west (well
Bristol and Bath) this appears to be changing with 30-50 applicants for
each post and average salaries in the commercial sector dropping by
about 15-25%
it is also apparent that the work "style" within education is "nicer"
than the private sector, in the private sector you don't often get the
9-5 working week that you find within education and there is also
generally less driving about as well.
