Hi,
As an electronics hardware design engineer my definition of cyborg is: "A
biological entity with active technology to replace of enhance some form of
function."
Breast implants, artificial hips, GRS, etc does not make a person a cyborg.
There are no active systems involved. I would also say that having a
pacemaker is very borderline as its function is so very primitive as far as
control systems go (although extremely important for the person concerned).
An artificial limb does not make a person a cyborg, unless there is an
active control and feedback system that allows direct control of the limb
by the individual's nervous system (whether through neural pickups,
residual muscle motion detection or other means).
The use of the term cyborg in a non-technological context to me is
inappropriate and by it's very definition meaningless.
Best wishes,
Susan.
