How do all,
Anything that linked to libems.a was giving the errno error then rebuilding
under RedHat 9.0, this has been fixed, and messgen also had a similar
problem (also fixed). The libraries all now build under RedHat 9.0. I am
investigating the "__ctype_b" error (occurs for convert) Alan thinks it is
to do with the IRAF libs that are in convert.
But still, when it all builds the build and tests still need comparing to
the RedHat 7.3 version!
Steve.

Subject: Redhat 9 and Autumn 2002 release
Hi everyone,
I've recently upgraded one of my home machines to use Redhat 9 and
although the programs I've tried seem to run OK (except for various
warnings about bad use of the errno variable), it isn't currently possible
to relink any applications.
When you try to relink you get error messages about the missing modules
"__ctype_toupper" and "__ctype_b". These are no longer exported from glibc
(it seems that some work to better support unicode and internationalization
has seen these replaced), although a compatibility set were exported for
Redhat 8.0.
I guess the moral for the moment (assuming a future update to glibc
doesn't fix this, and no one else has found a work around), is to not
upgrade if you want to do any development. Also we should consider a
Redhat 9 re-build for Spring 2003 a probably priority.
Cheers,
Peter.
