Just use [-1.5:1.5] for the linear trend and then choose a polynomial
expansion of 2. SPM will the automatically generate the regressors for the
quadratic trend and orthogonalizes it w.r.t. to the linear trend.
You will end up with 3 regressors:
1. onsets
2. linear trend
3. quadratic trend (orthogonal to 2.)

Correct. 0 1 0 test the linear trend (increase), 0 -1 0 tests a linear
decrease across load conditions, and 0 0 1 test for the quadratic trend.
