Thanks for your comments and very helpful emails on working around or through the issue of 'Hegel'.

I found a very inexpensive copy and started reading 'The Phenomenology of Spirit' and cannot help at this early stage but think that 'Queerness' and not 'Freedom' is the driving force in Hegels 'Geist', has or does anyone else read this?

Hegel seems to set a process of confrontation in action ('dialectics' - comment below) and as such is providing the motor and drive towards what I am reading so far as a 'Queering' of a process of normativity in the search for freedom. Queer here meaning a site of knowledge and desire that unleashes events other than that can be contained in the normative synthesis. Knowledge also seems to confront the one sidedness of consciouness, the universal; challenging absolute truths.

(dialectics) - I'm very mindful as I read the Hegelian dialectic, as it has proven unable to take into account the power involved in the primary exclusion of a repressed knowledge.

Interesting nonetheless.....
(and no, fear not, I have not suddenly been seduced to the dark side of Hegeliana.)
