Dear all,
Here in the journal TRANSLATION AND LITERATURE is a informative review by Rose France of Masha Karp's book about Orwell and Russia, though there is a paywall and you may need to access it through a library.
A striking detail from the book is that, in 1947, Gorachev, the editor of the anti-Soviet journal Possev, wrote to Orwell in Russian. Gorachev explained later that he assumed it would have been impossible for someone who did not know the language to have such a "perfect understanding" of the nature of the Soviet regime.
