Privacy I understand. People have different ideas & feelings about this.
Spamming is a fact of internet life & is what e-mail filters are for. But
what is this "security" business? In what way is our security threatened by
open archives? Has the list been hacked? Has any member's personal safety
been threatened?*

I agree with this. It is for our own benefit that the archives should be
open.

I have no idea whether he wishes to return, but he should be allowed to
return if he wishes because 1) We do not practice banishment for life & 2)
It would be a demonstration of political openness, which, for me at any
rate, is one of the values of poetry.
