>>there is the fact that A) the pyramids of old were built by slaves,
Not to rain on the proletariat, Kent, but the current thinking is that the
pyramids were built by a well cared for cadre of artisans who willing served
for specific time periods, rotating their numbers by region and season so
they could attend to their own farms and commerce. It was more akin to
enlisting in service. Remember, the culture was different, to serve the gods
was to serve Pharaoh, a god. There was a tremendous support system of
bakeries, doctors, housing, communal kitchens to name just a bit. Whole
families were provided for in every way. People injured received medical
care and pensions.
I agree that pyramid allegories are condescending in the sense of conman
pyramid schemes. There I'd agree.
Fact is though, people who I admire as poets are very embracing while
remaining true to their own journey (I think Philip Whalen, Robert Creeley,
Dick Gallup off hand). Aren't we yanks still Walt Whitman's children in a
sense? Democratic, working class, singing our way?
FWIW off my blue-cuff
