Subject: SNAP Bass - Deepcut
This came about as a reaction to Frederick's snap
Deepcut
and I would crawl
crawl inside his bearskin
but first would relish supersoft
qualities quite insurmountable, I later found
sure sign of Daddy's huge importance in this world
he met the Queen you know
then went back to tell his men how they should fall
in lines upon a concrete square they marched
left right up down. grown-ups
have no idea how to skip
upon hard ground
This is very good. The shift back to a child's point of view at the end -
the abruptness yet naturalness of that shift. The way the form reflects
that beginning and ending in a child's consciousness, and hinges on that
absurd validation of the father ("he met the Queen"). The poem, her
consciousness, are deeply cut - but is "deepcut" itself a noun I don't know,
or just an adjective? Very impressive piece, Tina.
