As a recent purchaser of one of what Mark Weiss engagingly calls a 'hurt'
(very slightly bruised perhaps, but very definitely unbowed) copy of
Junction Press' "Selected Shorter Poems" of Armand Schwerner, I feel the
least I can do is to add my thimbleful of praise to what's been said by Rain
Taxi &
Shearsman & others. The marvellous cover photograph, of the man in full
flight during
a reading, seems to capture the tone of the volume very well. There's a
great sense of resourcefulness and generosity, of a man finding as many ways
as he could to pass on his gift. The poems seem approachable, useable even.
Here's to him.
