I too am a Gunslinger fan. And it's 'defence' of the epic lies in
its comic mode. The pleasure of hearing Dorn read can be had--he's on tape
reading part 1, a S Press Tape, no 43/44.

This puzzled me - I have it in one volume, courtesy of Duke University
Press, and inside it are _four_ books. And I envy you having heard it
read.
As for the feminist epic, I'll mention Notley's The Descent of Alette
again, since it bears mentioning, I think, many times.
