Sophie,
I realize the following interventions are under debate and each has
it's followers and detractors but any one or all may be helpful.
Understanding the entire sympathetic reaction to trauma as well
as eventual parasympathetic control of the system, it seems the
goal is the eventual normalcy of symp/parasymp turnover.
Several attempts have been made with contrast bathing, sensory stim.
ie, TENS, tactile differentiation (course, smooth, hot, cold, pressure,
release),
neuromuscular activation in a simple PNF patterns active vs. passive. Spine
manip/mobilization can be a big help as you are doing. Swimming in colder
then warmer water, Estim and gradual plyometric LE activity have been used
some with surprising results. I find one key is patient buy-in. They believe,
you relieve.
Sorry, there are a ton of published treatment protocols and progressions
however
I found the best may not be the most published. Back to the experimentation
stage
in many cases.
Luck,
Rick
