Dear Colleagues,
I would be grateful if you could bring our current recruitment round (detailed below) to the attention of anyone who might be interested.
Best wishes,
Howard Turner
The UK Government Operational Research Service (GORS) provides analytical support to policy-making, strategy and operations in many different Government Departments and Agencies and currently numbers about 400 staff. This notice relates to a recruitment exercise for both graduates and experienced analysts.
Applicants must have, or be expecting in the academic year in which they apply, a
good degree in a numerate discipline. Most successful applicants have a 2:1 or
better or an MSc or PhD. Applicants with a lower class of numerate
degree will need to show wider skills and significant OR experience to be
successful.
Salaries are typically in the range £ 20,000 to £ 27,000 for graduates, £ 24,000 to
£ 39,000 for experienced analysts.
These posts require a keen interest in public service; an ability to be both rigorous in analysing problems and creative in proposing solutions; and the judgement, confidence and presentation skills to deliver sound and convincing advice. Whilst in-depth knowledge of OR techniques is an advantage, it is not essential.
Those without such prior knowledge, but with strong analytical skills, are
encouraged to apply as opportunities exist for training in OR methods.
Posts are open to British and Commonwealth citizens. Most posts are also
open to nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes all
the countries of the European Union, and to certain non-EEA family members
and Swiss nationals.
Candidates must be free to reside and take up employment within the UK.
For more information and details of how to apply please see

The closing date for this recruitment exercise is 1 October 2008.
