Hmm. As an italophile and Italian speaker, I'm not impressed by the nicking of a domain in .it for an English website. Though I know that there's a long and inglorious history of this in the last decade or so :(

It is an interesting idea, and crowdsourcing income is a known if niche model (I know of an Internet radio station that's entirely supported by voluntary listener contributions and does pretty well). It would be a good way of getting out-of-print books back into circulation, at the very least. Thanks for the tip-off, Pat.
