Perhaps you would like to tell her about the recent case of Tracy Cooke (see
September's OH journal page 4) Tracy refused to let the HR manager have
access to medical records and she was subsequently dismissed but not before
the Manager had looked at the notes whilst Tracy was out of the office. She
has won her case in court........ Carol Bannister was the chief witness and
the judges comments are invaluable to the OH nursing profession for the
future. The Leeds tribunal found in favour of Tracy on the grounds of
protected disclosure. The amount of compensation Tracy has awarded will be
decided in October - we await this figure with anticipation - as it will
make the likes of your general manager sit up and take note. If you show
him/her the article and explain that only you and your OH colleagues should
hold the keys maybe, just maybe, it may have some effect!
