I agree that my generalization can be inaccurate for specific countries,
and the UK leads in efforts to prepare volunteers through programs such as
those run by RedR.
It would be interesting to see if there are similar protections to the ones
you mentioned in other European countries. I believe the regulation of
volunteers is a State, rather than a Federal, responsability in the US and
Australia, and therefore inconsistant. In addition, the degree to which
national laws apply to volunteers working outside their country of origin
(either the laws of the country they work in or the laws of the country
they come from) merits research. I wonder how volunteers are regulated in
places like India, Peru, South Africa or Japan?
