as is that, perhaps, on the mining of Flint. A good series of papers
assessing all aspects of prehistoric mining activity, especially the
'spiritual' / religious / ritual side, drawing from archaeological and
anthropological sources, has recently been published by The Institute of
Archaeology and Ethnology at the Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw. The
book is entitled'MAN AND FLINT'
and contains 53 papers (all in English) developed from the 1995
proceedings of the VIIth international flint symposium. ISBN 8385463550.
Interesting to break down the perceived barriers between history and
archaeology and draw comparisons between data from prehistoric flint
mines and historically attested metalliferous ones. Long may this
continue.
