Dear All,
Peter Claughton's and others initiative in setting up this mailbase is of
great value to all. We all enjoy this facility greatly. However, after
viewing the development of certain debates in the past, the tone of some has
degenerated into, shall we say, direct and confrontational situations. Whilst
of course debate can be heated - & there is nothing wrong with this - there
is a dividing line between debate & antagonism. I, & am sure others, have
noticed that certain things have been said in the past that cannot help but
'raise blood': there is no necessity for this. Why is it necessary to be
confrontational to acheieve dialogue? - particularly in the field of common
interest? Some seem to like stimulating a sensible matter by throwing
barriers up. Yes, of course if someone says something silly they must be
corrected, but it does not mean that one must be voracious in correcting
same. A gentle reminder or nudge is sufficient - with humor is always
respected by all. A brief thought. With Kind Regards to All, Bernard.
