regarding your comments about miners in bare feet;
In the Rossendale coalfield, East Lancashire, the drawers (putters) used to
work in bre feet, in fact they were forced to do so.
It was considered that their clogs damaged the pit floor. This practice
continued into the 11920's and 30's and a do posess a photo of aa group of
bare footed Drawers at Nabb colliery C 1920.
