I would agree with what Martin has said -- IMHC are a different content to NAMHO Conferences - This will be our fourth IMHC and the previous three have been memorable for various reasons -- all different. Also it is nice to look at the wider international picture of mining history and meet others who may have an interest in your particular line of mining research, and perhaps view it from a different stance. Going so far, I usually I try and fit other things in as well and have already arranged a few side trips - as well as seeing old friends!

Having attended the last international mining history conference in
Johannesburg, I can vouch for the excellent content of these events. They are,
however, academic events and talks are generally by leading academics from
around the world in mining history. So don't expect NAMHO style field trips or
trade displays.

Peter,
Me thinks to commit to quite an expensive trip that calls itself a mining
history conference that seems more intent on cocktail parties and historic
buildings, only one mine , no underground and no other mining sites
included is very poor. An indicative lecture programme is not even
available does not inspire , I had considered booking but its not selling
itself at the moment.
