Dear Colleagues (with apologies for cross-posting),
The Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) invites top quality students to apply for its PhD programmes ¡© MPhil/PhD in Media and Communications or MPhil/PhD in New Media, Innovation and Literacy (see: [log in to unmask])" target="_blank">http:[log in to unmask]).
The Department of Media and Communications at LSE was founded 10 years ago and has 16 full-time members of staff, who are all experts in their respective fields and specialisms. We conduct critical, empirical and engaged social science research in relation to media and communication. We bring to multiple disciplinary agendas a deep understanding of changes in the media and communication environment as these shape, and are shaped by, complex socio-technical, political-economic, cultural and historical developments.
Our approach emphasises structures, processes and practices in an increasingly media-saturated society and concerns about inequality, legitimacy, privacy-publicness, voice, and violence inform our theoretical and empirical research with de-Westernising research in the field as a persistent focus for discussion. We raise and investigate issues of inequality and discrimination in a variety of fora linked to media and communication and propose solutions based on our results.
The final deadline for applications is 10th of January 2014. All offer holders will automatically be considered for an LSE studentship. EU students will also be considered for an ESRC grant. Across the LSE a total of 59 studentships and more than 30 research council grants are on offer. These are competitive - for information on the funding opportunities see: http://www.lse.ac.uk/intranet/students/moneyMatters/financialSupport/ScholarshipsLSE/PhDApp/MResMPhilPhDProgrammes.aspx
