Registration is open for a one-day symposium on ‘New Directions in Women’s Art History’, organized by UWE’s Visual Culture Research Group.
This event is based on recently published books in women’s art history. It will explore the diversity of approaches taken at this point in time and reflect on current concerns and critical strategies. These extend from transnational to inter-generational and archival approaches and include the study of maternal bodies, femininity, Pop Art, and the Cologne avant-garde. The symposium is part of the Visual Culture Research Group’s series on ‘Visualising Histories’, which aims to increase the visibility of under-represented and as-yet-untold histories of creative practice.
The authors will talk about their books and the day will include plenty of time for discussion. The symposium will end with a book launch to celebrate the various publications.
· Rosemary Betterton on Maternal Bodies in the Visual Arts
· Clare Johnson on Femininity, Time and Feminist Art
· Sue Tate on Pauline Boty: Pop Artist and Woman
· Dorothy Price (née Rowe) on After Dada: Marta Hegemann and the Cologne Avant-Garde and Women, the Arts and Globalization: Eccentric Experience (co-edited with Marsha Meskimmon)
