Futureability is an EU funded research project exploring the use of visual methods in online teaching. It is partly a response to the pandemic, but it is also looking to explore how the visual can be used in the longer term as a pedagogical tool to teach across a range of disciplines. The research is led by La Sapienza, Italy and includes partners from four EU countries (Italy, Sweden, Greece, Hungary), the UK and South Africa. UK partners are DigiTales and Loughborough University.
The partnership is looking to gather material at a national level that could be used to inform the subsequent piloting of good practice across, and hopefully beyond, all participating institutions. These examples may be moments when visual methods have been used to inform a pedagogical approach or studied as a subject in their own right. This could, for example, include filmmaking (e.g. participatory video), photography (e.g. photovoice), digital storytelling, storyboarding, performance or similar. We are open to suggestions and would welcome examples of good practice from across Higher Education. We have, for example, discussed the project with colleagues using graphic illustration/comics to teach bio-medical science to second year undergraduates.
A key part of the research is a survey conducted across the participating countries. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and I’m posting to see if people could tackle this. The target is for this to be completed by at least 50 academics from each participating country. We need more respondents from the UK, and it would be hugely appreciated if you could complete this and also share it with colleagues who may be willing to take this on. There is no restriction on the number of contributions from each a particular institution The deadline to complete is Saturday 22nd January.

Many thanks to all those who take the time to complete this.
With best wishes
