FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Portal for museum professionals is launched
mda has launched a pilot portal for the museum sector. Once fully
operational the portal will be a one-stop-shop for the collection and
dissemination of standards, experience and opinion relating to
collections information management. A hundred invited guests joined
the Board and staff of mda in Cambridge University Botanic Gardens for
the launch, which also marked the 25th anniversary of the organisation.
Director, Louise Smith commented: “We are very excited at being able to
offer this new service to our users, and are grateful for the support given
by our system developers System Simulation Ltd. and by our funders
Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries. The portal
is a first step in providing easily accessible and quality-assured
information, advice and support for people working with collections, and
continues our long tradition of responding to the needs of museums and
galleries. More than ever our sector needs easy access to validated and
mediated professional information; a service which can respond to
queries and be a repository for the wealth of expertise held by
professionals working throughout the sector.”
The Open Day was also the occasion for mda Chair Nichola Johnson to
be presented with an award from the Learning and Skills Council in
recognition of mda’s attainment of the Investors in People standard.
Receiving the award Nichola said: “I am delighted that the commitment
mda has to its staff and their continued learning and development has
been recognised by this award. We are proud to epitomise a ‘learning
organisation’ and will continue to respond to the challenges facing the
sector with creativity and commitment.”
