Thank you to all so far, much appreciated, I shall investigate. I have been trialling 'Memberships', but couldn't get round the corporate issue.
By Mailchimp integration I mean that each member's email address then becomes part of a mailchimp mailing list automatically. By my reading of the law on this kind of thing, if you are a paid member of an organisation you can be contacted by that group, in this case it would be via mailchimp, of course you can unsubscribe if you wish. That's my take on it...
Cheers
Tony

Nice, I really like this sort of approach. It gives the client a certain amount of creative licence too (but within safe pre-coded constraints).

Thanks Perry.
Yeah, ACF. Super lovely plugin :-)
As well as the newsletters, we have a kind of modular system thing (technical term) that allows editors to drop in new rows of content on any page. So for instance they can add "three column featured row" or "WYSIWYG" or "tweets" or whatever. Same for sidebars:

It's really nice because it means templates become more like "layouts" which can have pretty much infinite combinations of content areas in them. The challenge we've found is that designing becomes less "template" and more "modular block" which is even harder for clients to understand / sign off...
cheers!
Mike
