BOOKS ON THE MOVE: Tracking Copies through Collections and the Book Trade Friday 1 December and Saturday 2 December 2006 To be held at: Wesley's Chapel, 49 City Road, London EC1
This year's Annual Conference in Book Trade History will trace individual copies and their movement in and out of collections and across international frontiers, exploring aspects of the history of provenance and book ownership. The programme will include:
Astrid Balsem (Amsterdam): Books from the Library of Andreas Dudith (1533-89) in the Library of Isaac Vossius (1618-89)
Peter Beal (London): 'Lost': The Destruction, Dispersal and Rediscovery of Manuscripts
Pierre Delsaerdt (Antwerp): Bibliophily and Public-Private Partnership: the Library of Gustave van Havre (1817-92) and its afterlife in Antwerp libraries
Cristina Dondi (Oxford): Pathways to Survival for Italian Books of Hours Printed in the Fifteenth Century
Angela Nuovo (Udine): The Making and Unmaking of the Library of Gian Vincenzo Pinelli (1535-1601)
David Pearson (London): What Can We Learn by Tracking Multiple Copies of Individual Editions?
Jos van Heel (The Hague): The Travels of Incunabula from the Library of Gerard Meerman (1722-71)
Organized by Michael Harris, Giles Mandelbrote and Robin Myers, in association with the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association and with the generous support of the Bibliographical Society.
Fee: £80, including coffee, tea and lunch on both days. Early booking is recommended.
