Dear all, with apologies to those of you who receive this four times (and a special prize if you get it five times...)
As outlined, we're looking to appoint three people for the Collections Review; each will focus on the collections within a particular domain, but they'll work together and with other colleagues on a very collaborative project. You're our main librariany (surely a real word, Outlook?) audience, and we're advertising via archives and museums lists as well (plus it will be on jobs.ac.uk soon if you like looking there). Please feel free to circulate this to anyone you think may be interested, and get in touch if you have any questions.
Collections Review Assistants: three part time contract posts
The Royal College of Surgeons of England has been awarded funding from Arts Council England's Designated Development Fund to undertake a comprehensive survey of all its Designated Collections across the library, museums and archives. This involves conducting a physical care and preservation appraisal alongside a significance assessment. Our aim is to develop our understanding of these collections to move their management and usage forward. We are looking to appoint a project team of three, drawn from library, museum and archive sectors, who will undertake the survey.
This unique, exciting opportunity would suit enthusiastic professionals who possess curiosity and imagination; analytical skills coupled with the ability to work methodically and accurately; and who would relish the experience of working closely with colleagues from allied domains.
The successful candidates will have a first degree as well as appropriate library, museum or archives qualifications. You will have proven experience in your sector; a positive attitude to working with collections on a cross domain basis; and a practical, hands-on approach. You will be a good team player and have experience of working on projects to meet milestones. An interest in medical history or experience of working in a health related area would be an advantage. You will have the communication skills and confidence to engage with colleagues, stakeholders and users to ensure the success of the project.
The Collections Review Assistants (Library and Museums) will each work at 0.8FTE, while the Collections Review Assistant (Archives) will work at 0.6FTE, between October 2014 and December 2015.
