Graduate Trainees 2005/6
These are fixed-term posts available from 1st August 2005 to 11th August 2006.
The Library has a strong commitment to supporting the training of future professionals and providing experience suitable to support applications for postgraduate study in librarianship/information science. Graduate trainees are given the chance to work in different sections of the Library and to experience all aspects of the library service. Whilst employed at the Library, graduate trainees will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of training and developmental activities, as well as complete a work-based project of long-term value to the Library. Graduate traineeships at Leeds offer a unique opportunity to gain experience in one of the largest academic libraries in the country, with world-renowned collections.
There are close links between Leeds University Library and the School of Information Management at Leeds Metropolitan University, and graduate trainees are encouraged to apply to its postgraduate programme.
Applicants should be graduates and have excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills, being able to deal with a variety of people with confidence. An understanding of customer care and the role of libraries in higher education is essential, as is a demonstrable commitment to following a career in library/information work.
Grade: University Grade 3 (£12,242).
Hours: 36.5 per week (including evening and weekend duties as required).
