We are almost fully self-service and auto renew but elected to keep date labels (much reduced in size) to designate home location as we are multisite. We also ink stamp the edges of the pages. Never used for actual dates - the users get an email with their loans etc.

We're a small hospital library and we still have date labels. We had a short discussion but find that when self issuing, some people like to write the date in the book (they might lose the slip of paper), so we continue to stick them in. As you say, they also give the user useful details (although we could use a shorter credit-card sized insert, I suppose) about how to renew, how to contact us, etc.
Also, when we lend a book to another library we write where it is going and the date we send it & the contact details are useful for the other library if they want to renew, etc, as they haven't got to look us up.
Also, many of our users don't use the online facility for checking due dates and for renewing, though I suspect the younger generation, such as students, do that sort of thing as a matter of course.
Best Wishes

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Date labels
Hi Everyone
A late Friday afternoon question for you. We no longer charge fines, and we automatically renew books up to 12 times, I think some people call it dynamic loans. We vary rarely use date stamps, because of this and self service. We are wondering whether we should stop putting date labels in books, but the label clearly states the ownership of the book and we colour code according to library. We stopped having book plates some time ago. I was wondering has anybody else decided to stop having date labels, and if so how do you mark ownership and location beyond the accession stamps. Also, has anybody else had a similar discussion and decided to keep with date labels, if so why.
Have a nice weekend.
Regards
