*Apologies for cross posting*
Following the 2003 launch of RSS feeds for Institute of Physics (IOP)
Journals, I'm pleased to report that our feeds have been enhanced with
PRISM metadata and additional Dublin Core metadata. The
deployment and ongoing development of our RSS feeds confirms our continued
commitment to emerging standards and protocols.
RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is an XML format that
enables the syndication or sharing of content. Feeds are available for the
'Latest papers' in our journals. They can be viewed
using free desktop or web-based readers and/or deployed on other websites
and portals. The fields that have recently been added to our feeds
include journal name, ISSN, publication date, author name(s) and
the article's DOI.
Our Journals feeds can be found at http://syndication.iop.org/?cat, the
home to all of IOP's RSS feeds. The enhancements described above have been
implemented in RSS 1.0, the most popular and widely
used format. Feeds are also available in RSS 0.91 and RSS 2.0.
For a good overview of RSS and how it can be exploited by libraries, see
this article by Roddy Macleod, Senior Subject Librarian at Heriot-Watt
University:
http://www.freepint.com/issues/170604.pdf (page 7)
I hope this will inspire you to start using our RSS feeds, if you are not
already.
Kind regards,
Lucy Braithwaite
