Hi all,
Thanks very much for sharing this insight around Google Scholar profiles. It's interesting to hear/have confirmed that these are generated without the input of the institution they're supposed to be affiliated to, or indeed the researcher, which I suspected but good to have confirmed. Am I right in understanding that there is a researcher based at this institution, but they haven't set up this profile at all and it's been auto-generated by GS?
I have often found Google Scholar unreliable when I'm looking into a particular researcher's metrics, especially when it often clumps together researchers with a common name. I usually cross-reference with Dimensions, ORCID and other sites, but it's interesting to see what Google Scholar picks up that Dimensions doesn't, and the often big difference between citation counts across profiles.
Thanks again,
Rebecca Barber
