Project Software Engineer – 2 Posts
Salary: 25,889-31,840, 2 year contract
OULS is commissioning a Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) to act as a
central repository for digital objects.. The objects are managed using
FEDORA (Flexible Extensible Digital Object and Repository Architecture)
software which is being enhanced to work with Sun Microsystems' object
storage technology as part of our Sun Centre of Excellence status. An
essential part of this activity is the ability to ingest and process large
amounts of digital content from a variety of sources and, in particular, the
materials generated as a result of the University's ongoing mass
digitisation programmes (such as the recently announced JISC-funded
Electronic Ephemera project to digitise a selection from the 1.5M items in
the John Johnson Collection).
We are looking for someone with experience of developing and deploying
software components within a Java/Solaris/Linux environment. As these
components must integrate/interoperate with existing systems and conform to
the overall DAMS architectural model, the ability to liaise effectively with
colleagues at all levels is essential.
