April 26-28, 2007
University of Toronto
DIVERSITY, OTHERNESS, AND PLURALISM IN ITALIAN LITERATURE, CINEMA,
LANGUAGE, AND PEDAGOGY - YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW
Guest Speakers:
Marcel Danesi (University of Toronto)
Romano Luperini (Siena University)
Millicent Marcus (Yale University)
Organized by the Graduate Students Association of Italian Studies at the
University of Toronto, the conference will examine the perception of
otherness and the expressions of diversity in Italian literature, cinema,
and language throughout the centuries.
Perspectives will be both inter- and intra-cultural and will reflect both
past and present cultural and linguistic minorities in Italian society,
Italians abroad, and those who are/were perceived, or perceive/perceived
themselves, to be different within the very same culture. Papers
exploring genres that are considered “diverse”, with respect to
traditional canons, are welcome.
We will also attempt to address the following question: “Can the teaching
of foreign languages and cultures promote a positive attitude towards a
culturally diverse society, and how?”
Although the focus will be primarily literary, cinematic, linguistic, and
pedagogical, papers addressing the proposed theme from different
disciplines will certainly be considered. We strongly encourage papers
from all time periods.
Papers may be in Italian, English, or French, but must be no longer than
20 minutes (10 pages in MLA format). Please submit an abstract of your
paper (150-200 words), or your paper to be considered by January 30, 2007
via e-mail to: [log in to unmask]
Participants will be notified of the acceptance of their papers by
February 15, 2007.

VARIETÀ, ALTERITÀ E PLURALISMO NELLA LETTERATURA, NEL CINEMA, NELLA LINGUA
E NELLA PEDAGOGIA - IERI, OGGI E DOMANI
Ospiti:
Come?
[log in to unmask]
