Director, The Bologna Center. The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced
International Studies (SAIS) of John Hopkins University has an opening for
the Director of its Bologna Center, located in Bologna, Italy. The Bologna
Center is a full-time graduate school that offers the only International
Relations Program in Europe under the American system. Established in 1955,
for nearly 50 years the Center has promoted a truly international
composition of faculty and staff, representing as many as 30 countries
during the academic year. Nearly 5,000 graduates of the center now work in
more than 90 countries around the world. The Bologna center offers an
interdisciplinary program of studies, with an emphasis on European studies,
international economics, politics and history. Language instruction. Italian
art history and literature supplement the curriculum. The Director is
responsible for the administration of the Bologna Center. The Director works
closely with the Dean in the areas of curricular development, recruitment
and retention of faculty, responding to student needs and concerns,
management of the Center's budget and its administrative staff, fund raising
and relations with Donors, alumni and other external constituencies. SDAIS
is looking for a dynamic program builder who will continue to expand both
academic and professional reach and reputation of the Center and help it
adapt its curriculum and outreach activities to the new poitical, economic
and social environment of Europe. In this regard, the Director will be
expected to encourage excellence in teaching and to build and strenghten the
relationships with business and the public sector. He or She will also be
expected to develop new partnerships in Europe. Candidates sould have a
demonstrated record of effective leadership in academia, business or
government. An earned doctorate or other advanced professional degree,
experience in administration in an academic setting, preferably in a policy
oriented, professional school, or the equivalent, in either the public or
private sector, is preferred. Academic qualifications in the fields is
desired, as is expertise in European affairs. A communication and
interpersonal skills are essential. Nominations and applications will be
