Dear colleagues,
Language Acts and Worldmaking is currently undertaking the British Academy-funded project ‘Understanding languages skills and capabilities in the UK research base’. The aim of the project is to study and report on the evidence base on the role and usefulness of language skills in academic research disciplines in UK universities. Currently, we are interested in finding out more about the ways in which language learning and proficiency is relevant to researchers in their professional lives; this could include, for example, the potential economic benefits of speaking multiple languages, but also issues of anglocentric research environments and the loss of knowledge caused by this.
We would therefore be very grateful if you would fill out our questionnaire, which should take no longer than 10-15 minutes of your time (this is a generous estimate – most participants thus far have completed it in under ten). No personal data is collected in this survey.
Please do feel free to distribute it within your institutions as well.

We are very keen to hear from all (!) research disciplines, including those not commonly associated with the use of different languages. Do not hesitate to write to me with any questions you might have ([log in to unmask]).
With warm wishes,
Anja Rekeszus
