Archaeology shows an unfortunate tendency to fragment into discrete
sub-disciplines, for example, industrial archaeology has often been
seen as the preserve of those with interests in technology and
production. However all aspects of work have profound environmental
impacts in terms of the procurement of raw materials, fuel supply,
disposal of wastes, processing, distribution and consumption, besides
having effects on human and animal health.
The aims of this conference are to focus attention on
bioarchaeological aspects of past industry (defined broadly so as to
include any process involving the use of inorganic or organic raw
materials. We aim therefore, to bridge the gap between industrial
and environmental archaeology.
Papers are invited on aspects of the bio- and geoarchaeology of all
kinds of industry.
For further details please contact the conference organisers.
