Chris
The army/defra/maff etc etc (!) contacted us in advance of digging the pits
and gave us an hour to object or ok the sites before they dug the holes. As
a result staff here were on call with a laptop during the crisis and we were
provided with 8 figure grid refs of each pit to enable us to search the SMR.
That said I have just spoken to our countryside officer and we reckon that
not all of the pits are in the places we were told and there may also be
some that we were not told about.
Glos was the third or fourth worst hit county so things were a little hectic
to say the least. We did not manage to get anyone to pay for any
archaeological work in advance of these pits but we did manage to force them
to tell us where they were being dug and give us the option to get them
moved. At the time it was the best we could achieve.

Tim,
How did you know their location?
