I like to lend support to the idea of maintaining a selective SMR forum
for a short trial period. I am sure that in the near future discussion
would benefit from the thoughts of those who are less directly concerned
with the management of SMRs, but rely on their output.
The SMR desk manual is a very welcome initiative. The draft contents seem
very comprehensive.
I wonder whether specific mention needs to be made of the relationship
between SMR aims, and NMR policy ? This is probably implied by various
categories in the draft contents, but there seem to be issues connected
with data exchange and referral which are particular to the SMR-NMR
relationship.
Also, is there a need to discuss the ethics/legal issues of information
dissemination beyond the Data Protection Act ? I am thinking of the NMR
license/code for information users, and the uneasy relationships with
treasure seekers, etc.
