Our client is a digital location and mapping business, providing digital products to address the challenges faced in the use and management of complex public spaces.Their technologies are used by public bodies, enterprise clients and institutions globally across transport, healthcare, and responsive spaces.
Flexible working including fully remote - you must be UK Based . There is access to their offices in the South West (Bath).
The role:
They are looking for a data developer that has a grounding in geospatial science, to join their spatial data team. The team is responsible for using, maintaining and developing the mapping data pipeline. This covers an integral part of their product development, including data sourcing, manipulation and ingestion into a central database.
From here the team's focus is on indoor data standardisation, leveraging opportunities for analysis and exposing possible use cases within downstream services. They commonly work in multidisciplinary development teams, consulting on the use of data for both backend infrastructure and frontend map visualisation and interaction to shape the future of the product.
Requirements:
Experienced user of Object Relational Databases, namely PostgreSQL. Well versed in data architecture and schema development. Good working knowledge of the spatial extension PostGIS and pgRouting.
Experienced user of GIS Software (namely QGIS), with an understanding of the potential of open-source GIS.
Confident when using command line tools/scripting, with a focus on automation. Specifically, automation of data sourcing using APIs and geospatial tools.
Understanding of version control with git
The motivation to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge to meet evolving product requirements. Enthusiastic about shaping future products alongside developers of wide ranging disciplines.
Open to travel to undertake site surveys for data validation.
Minimum 2+ years relevant experience.
Degree in Geography/GIS/Data Science or other relevant discipline.
Familiarities:
The principles and data pipeline of modern web mapping, including automation using languages such as Python.
Using and extracting information from CAD building plan drawings.
Knowledge of Apple's Indoor Mapping Data Format (IMDF), with an understanding of its data structure.
Accustomed to the movement of people through busy indoor spaces such as airports.
Data versioning with tools like Flyway Version Control
