Assistant Professor
School of Earth and Climate Sciences
Endowed Professorship: Petrology/Mineralogy/High P-T Geochemistry
Full-time Tenure-Track Position
The University of Maine invites applications for the newly established,
endowed Edward Sturgis Grew Professorship in Petrology and Mineralogy in the
School of Earth and Climate Sciences. This is a full-time tenure-track
position with a focus on igneous and/or metamorphic petrology, geochemistry,
and mineralogy. We seek a candidate who will complement the existing
strengths in the Geodynamics, Crustal Studies, and Earth Rheology research
group, integrate field observations in their research, collaborate with
other members of the School and University of Maine community, and interact
with the broader geosciences community in the state. Areas of expertise may
include, but are not limited to, chemical-mechanical coupling, petrological
mineralogy, equilibrium and nonequilibrium thermodynamics, stable isotope
systematics and applications, whole-earth chemical cycling, and fluid-rock
interaction.
The new faculty member will be expected to: (1) develop a vigorous
externally-funded research program, (2) be able to teach mineralogy,
petrology, and graduate level courses, (3) supervise graduate and
undergraduate research, (4) advise undergraduate and graduate students, and
(5) take on a leadership role in selected School initiatives.
The School of Earth and Climate Sciences has a highly interactive research
and teaching environment, with broad focal areas in solid earth processes,
climate and glacial geology, marine and coastal geology, and environmental
geology. Among our research facilities are a Cameca SX-100 microprobe, a
Tescan Vega II scanning electron microscope equipped with EDS, EBSD, and CL
detectors, and a numerical modeling laboratory integrated with the
University supercomputer. For more information on the School, please visit:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in the discipline or a closely
related field by the date of appointment, a strong research and publication
record in their field, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching.
Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred but not required. The
position is an academic year appointment with preferred starting date of
September 1, 2015. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2015.
