Dear all,
I am a PhD student from the University of Pisa and writing to you because each year the University of Pisa gives the opportunity to Ph.D. students to participate in a competitive tender for the assignment of contributions for scientific events organized by us. This year as Ph.D. students of Geoscience and Environment, we decided to participate with a conference about geothermic, considering both geological and environmental topics. After the evaluation of our University, we have been selected and could proceed with the organization of the event.
The conference, entitled GeothermiX and entirely organized by Ph.D. students, will be subdivided into five different sessions regarding geology, environment, and didactic, in order to have the possibility to deal with geothermal topics from different research areas. In particular, there will be sessions about structural geology, geophysical and geochemical methods used during the prospection, as well as sessions about monitoring and the potential environmental impact of geothermal power plants (with impact on air, water, and human health), and, finally, a session about didactic and dissemination.
The event will last three days, from 29 November to the 1st of December 2023, at the Department of Earth Science in Pisa. During the first two days, oral presentations will be held, by high-level researchers, other Ph.D. students, and young researchers. Moreover, on the 1st of December we organized a field trip to Larderello (southern Tuscany) with the possibility to visit a geothermal power plant, the museum of geothermic, and, considering the time and weather, other peculiarities of the geopark.
The event is free (participants won’t be asked to pay for attending). Furthermore, partial funding is foreseen for Ph.D. students that submit their abstracts for oral presentation.
Considering this, I am writing to you, from our organizing team, to ask you whether you would accept to share this information, in your department with your colleagues, as well as join us!
We would be pleased to reach a high number of Ph.Ds and young researchers, in order to create an opportunity to meet and interact with people working in this field.
