Hi Vicky. Yes it's sad that Biotec are not supplying anymore. They are who we usually use. We'll need to check out any new suppliers to make sure they use conservation grade materials so if anyone has any suggestions we'd be keen to hear too.
I'd veer away from plastic slides for several reasons. The main one is that they are prone to static and loose specimens get stuck either on the plastic cover slip or on the slides themselves. Secondly there are sometimes problems with older slides where the inserts have come away or are curled and this provides a nice place for loose specimens to become permanently stuck if you are not careful. I suspect this is because of the mixed media and over time adhesives fail between plastic and paper/card.
All the best,
Giles

Dear GCG community,
Apologies for cross-posting (will look to send this to NatSCA too).
Would any know of a supplier of card slides with glass covers housed in a metal frame, often used in micropalaeo collections?
I usually use the following https://biotecmicroslides.co.uk/products/
But they can, sadly, no longer supply what I need.
Would prefer to look for UK based, unless prices are competitive.
If people do not know of any, do you have any success with plastic versions and which supplier can you recommend?
(are they too hard for the specimens, do they off gas, do they still fit in a slide cabinet etc.?)
Reply off list to [log in to unmask]
Many thanks,
Vicky
