Dear colleagues,
http://www.regionalmms.org/fileadmin/content/gallery/Migrant_Smuggling_in_the_Horn_of_Africa_and_Yemen._report.pdf
The RMMS is pleased to share its latest publication, 'Migrant Smuggling in the Horn of Africa and Yemen: the political economy and protection risks'. The report is the first, in a series of 9 research reports that are planned by RMMS during 2013/14 as part of the Mixed Migration Series - Explaining people on the move.
Unlike some regions of the world, free movement of people between countries in the Horn of Africa and Yemen (and their neighbors) is restricted by immigration policies. The result is that smuggling and trafficking proliferates in the region as a thriving corrupt multi-million dollar business facilitating, organizing and exploiting the movement of tens of thousands of destitute economic migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
The report Migrant Smuggling in the Horn of Africa and Yemen documents the social economy and protection risks associated with mixed migration flows involving Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia (including Puntland), Somaliland and Yemen. It is a compilation of most recent knowledge, data and analysis available of migrant smuggling in the region.
The report is available to view on the publication section of our website (http://www.regionalmms.org/index.php?id=2).
We have a limited number of hard copies which can be forwarded upon request and on a first come basis. Some agencies and offices (in Nairobi) will receive copies by hand in the coming days.
If you have any feedback we are keen to hear it.
Yours Sincerely,
Leandro Oduor
