POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP - The Alcohol and Tobacco Research Unit,
Department of Community Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Canada,
invites applications for a fellowship on population-based longitudinal
analyses of hazards associated with the use of alcohol. This fellowship will
begin on Sept. 1, 2004, and is grant funded for a period of two years with a
possibility of renewal in the third year. Area of specialization is
statistical epidemiology with an emphasis on cardiovascular diseases.
Applicants with research interests in the health effects of alcohol or
tobacco are encouraged to apply. The Fellow will receive a variety of
in-depth training experience which could include didactic coursework,
depending on the interests of the incumbent. Candidates are expected to have
completed their Ph.D. prior to the start of the fellowship period. This
fellowship opportunity includes the possibility of collaborating with
researchers at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy, which houses the
Population Health Research Data Repository, a comprehensive database of
client contacts with the health system. The Repository also includes
national, provincial, and regional data that enable research on the broader
determinants of health. This is an excellent opportunity for both
collaborative and independent research. Salary support will be competitive,
consistent with the pay supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research for post-doctoral fellows. Evaluations of candidates will begin
July 18, 2004, and continue until the position is filled. The Fellow will be
supervised by Dr. Robert P. Murray, Director, Alcohol and Tobacco Research
