ATLAS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BUSINESS TOURISM EDUCATION
29 November - 02 December 2004
at EIBTM: Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, Spain
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Conference Objectives
This is Europe's first conference to be held on the theme of education and training for the Business Tourism industry - a vast sector supporting all of those who participate in conferences, exhibitions, incentive trips and individual business travel. One of the fastest-growing sectors of the global travel and tourism industry, Business Tourism already accounts for approximately one quarter to one third of all earnings from travel and tourism in most developed destinations, and is of considerable importance to many emerging destinations as a source of revenue and job creation.
The past few years have seen a significant expansion of specialist Business Tourism educational provision in universities throughout Europe and beyond. In recognition of this expansion, a Business Tourism group of academics and researchers was launched in 2003, under the aegis of ATLAS, the Association for Tourism and Leisure Education.
This ATLAS conference will bring together, for the first time on an international basis, Business Tourism academics and researchers, along with practitioners from the various sectors of the Business Tourism industry. The academics and researchers will have the opportunity to demonstrate their roles in contributing to the education of the next generation of Business Tourism professionals and to the supply of market intelligence for the Business Tourism sector. The practitioners will be able to articulate their own needs and expectations regarding the part to be played by educational providers active in this vibrant and fast-changing sector.
The fact that this conference takes place at the same time and in the same venue as EIBTM (www.eibtm.com), the premier international event dedicated to the global meetings and incentive industry, creates a unique opportunity for Business Tourism educators and practitioners to meet under one roof to discuss what each can do for the other. Delegates will have 2 half days free during the conference when they can visit the EIBTM exhibition.
