Smith in EPNE accepts the element in the 'meeting' sense in some South Country place-names like Fingest (Bucks) and Dinghurst (Som), and words like þing-stede and þing-stow appear to confirm this. Bosworth-Toller has good confirmation, but quite a few of the usages of these words (not all) relate to biblical contexts.
