Chancellor's Fellowships at the University of Edinburgh
Exciting new opportunities to join the thriving Statistics group in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh!
To support the next generation of academic research and innovation leaders in data sciences and artificial intelligence the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Edinburgh proposes to appoint up to 10 new Chancellor's Fellows across a range of different themes and areas, including the Mathematical Sciences. These prestigious awards are aimed at early-career individuals of the highest potential and attainment who have begun to establish a reputation for the highest quality research at the forefront of their discipline and who have a commitment to learning and teaching at university level. Appointments may be made at Grade 8 (assistant professor/lecturer); Grade 9 (associate professor/reader); or Grade 10 (professor).
Building on the outstanding successes of our previous tenure-track Chancellor's Fellowship programmes and our world class research performance, we aim to appoint the next generation of research innovation leaders of the highest quality with a particular focus on Biotechnology; Living with Data; Extreme Conditions/Astrobiology; Energy; Materials and Manufacture; Risk and Resilience.
The School of Mathematics has particular interests in the themes: Living with Data; Risk and Resilience; Energy; and Materials and Manufacture. In particular, we expect these Chancellor's Fellowships to be of particular interest to researchers in Statistics working via their strong interaction with different disciplines or end-users of real data, with further opportunities in Optimisation, Stochastic Analysis and Computational Applied Mathematics.
The successful candidates in the Mathematical Sciences will be hosted in the School of Mathematics and allied to the newly opened Bayes Centre, the College of Science and Engineering's Data Science Institute, which also hosts the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS). The School of Mathematics also leads the interdisciplinary Centre for Statistics and has recently established the related Statistical Consultancy Unit. These together will foster opportunities to work on a wide range of practical problems arising from our growing interactions with Industry and the Public Sector, and with researchers across the breadth of the University to address challenging interdisciplinary problems. We expect that our Chancellor's Fellows will work with the Statistical Consultancy Unit, the Centre for Statistics and the Bayes Centre to help address the emerging challenges.
