Dear all
I was wondering if I could ask a quick question about how other institutions manage integrated theses (for us these contain 2 or more chapters which have been written for publication/published as an article (subsequent to starting the degree) with the article replacing the chapter).
Currently we redact any article that is either being considered for submission to a journal, being considered for inclusion by a journal or under embargo, place in our repository and insert a placeholder link in the thesis. The remains of the thesis is then uploaded open access and the links will resolve to full text content as and when embargos expire for particular articles. The content is not re-inserted into the thesis so we need the links to be permanent.
This process, while good for making as much content open access as soon as is feasible, is time consuming and we are looking to review. I have spoken with a couple of institutions who only redact content when it needs to be under permanent embargo; otherwise they leave all the articles embedded in the thesis and embargo the entire thing until it can be made available open access.
I just wondered if anyone does anything similar to us or if people more generally leave all the articles in place and just embargo the whole thesis until it can be made available open access?
Best Wishes
Caspian
