____________
Hi all! For those of you who may be interested, we are planning a
special session on Disability and Space for the upcoming annual Canadian
Association of Geographers conference being held at BROCK UNIVERSITY
(St.
Catherines, Ont.) Wednesday May 31 - Saturday June 3, 2000. CAG meetings
are
lively and friendly, and a good place to share thoughts on current
research.
It would be nice to have colleagues from outside Canada join in! The
conference will also be hosting the first ever Susan Mackenzie Memorial
lecture in honour of Suzanne's contributions to feminist geography.
Another
good reason to attend!
Disability and Space: Research Directions and Challenges
(Organizers: Valorie Crooks and Vera Chouinard, McMaster University)
This special session examines current directions and issues in
geographic studies of disability.
Papers will address such topics as: the marginalization of the disabled
in
academic environments, ethical and political dilemmas in conducting
research, promoting access to recreational spaces, and the role of
gender
and race in shaping disabled women's access to health care. Papers on
other
aspects of disability and space are also welcome. Persons interested in
participating in this session should contact Valorie Crooks @
[log in to unmask] no later than February 1, 2000.
