Editorial /// Transport, research, internet and growth
When we say that disability is everywhere, we mean it. Transport, research and web accessibility are crucial issues for the disability movement.
First, we were at the helm of air passenger rights with Commissioner Kallas to launch the interpretative guidelines on the air passengers with disabilities regulation. EDF has had a firm but constructive dialogue with the European Commission to ensure a text fully in line with the regulation and the rights of passengers with disabilities. This is a good timing to help the airlines respecting the rights of passengers with disabilities in anticipation of the summer break.
Secondly, we have issued our position regarding the next EU program for research, Horizon 2020. This is a very important instrument for research and innovation to create new growth and jobs in Europe. Horizon 2020 will decide the orientation of European research and allocation of funding for the next 7 years of the decade. Accessibility and non-discrimination for persons with disabilities must be at the core of the future programme.
Besides, the entire European Disability Forum gathered in Copenhagen for its general assembly and growth was an intense topic. Many voices from the movement expressed the necessity for the EU to include persons with disability in the growth strategy. In another ultimate attempt to save Europe from the crisis, Member States will gather on the 27th of June for another EU summit. That's why we join the Social Platform in their recommendations for the EU leaders. After several high-level EU summits, with no real decisions, we wonder if our EU leaders are not suffering from a similar syndrome as altitude sickness when attempting to address Europe's economic recovery.

Innovation & Research
EDF BRINGS DISABILITY IN THE HORIZON (2020)
Running from 2014 to 2020 with an 80 Eurobillion budget, the legislative proposal Horizon 2020 for research and innovation will be part of the drive to create new growth and jobs in Europe. Horizon 2020 will decide the orientation of European research and allocation of funding for the next 7 years of the decade: the visibility of disability and accessibility is therefore of major importance.Read latest EDF position on Horizon 2020.

Web accessibility
HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE A WEB-ACCESSIBILITY INTERNAL MARKET?
Under the Digital Agenda for Europe, the European Commission has committed to make a proposal to ensure that public sector websites (and websites providing basic services to citizens) are fully accessible by 2015 to persons with disabilities. Voicing the concerns of the persons with disabilities, EDF wants the realisation of this action: we contribute to it with the release of the EDF Report: A Compilation of Resources on the Web-Accessibility Internal Market.

Accessibility Act
THE ZERO PROJECT REPORT 2012 AT THE PARLIAMENT (21/06/2012)
The Disability Movement advocates for the adoption of a European Accessibility Act. The European Accessibility Act must address both the accessibility of actual goods or services as well as the conditions, under which goods or services are provided. The Zero Project aimed to shed more light on the way to Europe's accessibility; it advocated the rights of persons with disabilities internationally with the mission to work for a world with zero barriers.

KEEP IN MIND
EDF General Assembly
DISABILITY MOVEMENT WANTS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE GROWTH STRATEGY
On 26-27 May, the 15th annual general assembly of the European Disability Forum (EDF) brought the whole disability movement in Copenhagen. Among all the crucial topics, the 170 participants focused on how to make sure that the EU will deliver results on the disability strategy 2010-2020. Besides, more than ever, austerity measures are now causing alarming situations for people with disabilities in Europe. The disability movement adopted a strong resolution on the human rightsway out of the crisis: five weeks before the EU summit focusing on growth. The objective of the resolution is to ensure the EU decision makers will include 80 million persons with disabilities in the growth strategy.
